Your Host - Jeane Seah

Property manager at Château de Burnand, is Eurasian, born in Singapore, descendant from Chinese, English and Portuguese ancestors. Some years of her childhood were spent on Christ-mas Island (Indian Ocean) where she developed an uncompromising nature. This child of the sea was later modernized by Singapore’s upbeat mentality. In 1985 she married the well-known Dutch painter Nico Vrielink and had two boys. They moved with their family to Château de Burnand in France and lived in the castle for several years, where a number of his paintings and Jeane’s art works can still be seen in and around the castle grounds. Twenty years later, in 2005, Jeane moved to Bali to start a new discipline in art. Her desires to express herself organically and develop further her passionate relation-ship with natural elements led her to acquire the skill of silver-smithing. Restlessly fertile forces of volcanic energy on this spiritual island coached a new language, a new balance to be formed only through perseverance and the understanding of this special and avidly publicized place. Life changes as we change, a new challenge was yet on the horizon, and Jeane returned to Burgundy in 2013 running her former residence in France, Château de Burnand, from then on as a magnificent Bed&Breakfast. Burgundy is a marvelous place… Jeane’s art, writing, photography will prevail and be nourished by the environment in which she lives like nowhere else in the world...

Guest Speaker - Dirk Van der Stockt

Belgian Art Lover and Lifelong Orientalist with more than 25 years experience as a tour leader in North- East- South- & Central Asia. After obtaining a Bachelor degree in Physical Education & Biology, he arrived in Singapore early 1987 and started traveling extensively throughout every corner of the Asian continent. He got passionate about the “Happy-go-Lucky Lifestyle” in the Orient and while truly inspired, he started studying more in-depth about Arts & Culture of the Mekong region. Dirk decided to have a career shift and worked as a tour guide, a tour leader and destination manager. Over the last 25 years he traveled, lived and worked in more than 30# different destinations throughout Asia. In 1999 he settled down in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand, with an unremitting passion for travel in every corner of this fascinating continent: Asia. He obtained a PhD for Tourism & Travel Services Management at Assumption University in Bangkok and meanwhile established Smile of Asia, a truly independent travel organization, with a passionate approach to small group exploration and Tailor-Made travel. Travelers shouldn’t just visit a country but really experience it – in style with a fair amount of comfort. Inexhaustible sources with regards to the abundant presence of culture, nature, adventure, leisure and pleasure are an endless motivation for him to inspire other westerners to come and visit Asia. When South East Asia’s roaring economies started booming, a financial crisis was raging violently in Europe and the US. The gap between developed markets and emerging markets was closing rapidly. More and more Europe-bound Asian tourists were eager to explore and experience other continents. Dirk decided the time had come to give his professional career in Tourism & Hospitality yet another turn. His focus and undivided attention would, from now on turn back to his home continent Europe. Smile of Europe was established (Hong Kong, October 2015); it aims to provide Asian independent travelers a better insight into the rich cultural heritage and the abundance of delightful theme travel experiences to be enjoyed in Europe.
